Police: 1 Dead Following Accident In Southwest Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating a fatal accident in Southwest Philadelphia.

Police say it happened at about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday at Cobbs Creek Parkway and Whitby Avenue.

According to police, a vehicle was traveling southbound on Cobbs Creek Parkway, and for some unknown reason lost control. Police say the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, mounted the curb and struck the guardrail.

Police say the vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by a paratransit bus.

The 61-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital and pronounced at 6:32 p.m., according to police.

Police say the bus driver is being treated for back pain, one passenger is receiving treatment for hand pain, and a second passenger was taken to the hospital for observations.

The investigation is ongoing.
