South Philly Man Turns His Life Around, Now Promoting Peace One T-Shirt at a Time

By KYW community affairs reporter Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A South Philadelphia barber is delighted that, in just a few weeks, hundreds of people have joined his online campaign for peace.

It's called "Peace Live In It."  The online campaign began in December, and in just a few weeks more than 200 people have bought t-shirts, and posted photos and videos of themselves taking a pledge to promote peace.

"There's nothing to see somebody dead or someone who got murdered, and it kind of shapes our mind to accept our condition," says Will Little.

"It's January 21st and we already have 20-plus homicides in Philadelphia," he notes.

Little is a onetime drug dealer turned community activist and poet, who cuts hair at a barbershop at 16th and Tasker.  He says he started the campaign hoping to make change.

"My ultimate goal is to have everyone get these shirts and to wear them around, and hopefully we'll see some kind of decrease in the violence," he tells KYW Newsradio.

Little spent ten years in prison for murder but says he changed his life through positive thinking.  He believes that seeing people wearing the t-shirts and making the pledge to live in peace will help change the mindset within the community.

"We (as a community) rally, we do so many things, but no one really promotes the positive aspect of life and what we are doing," he says, "so the purpose of 'Peace Live in It' is to promote peace and to promote life."
