South Philadelphia Man Arrested In String Of Alleged Sexual Assaults

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have arrested a South Philadelphia man in connection with a series of sexual assaults in the last year.

Thirty-one-year-old Irvin Harper of the 600 block of Federal Street was arrested at his home on Thursday and charged with multiple counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and related crimes.

Police say in January, a 19-year-old woman was approached by a man near Germantown and Chelten Avenues. He told her he could help her find a job. She went with him, he pulled a gun and sexually assaulted her.

The victim told police the suspect approached her two more times, and sexually assaulted her again each time, before she went to police.

In October, a 21-year-old woman was approached at Germantown and Armat Street by a man, and again told her he could help her find a job.

The man pulled a gun and she was also sexually assaulted. Based on information from those incidents, police were able to track Harper down at his home.
