South Jersey Man Accused Of Passing School Bus As It Picks Up Kids

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man is facing charges after authorities say he was caught on camera speeding by a school bus while it was picking up children.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says it happened Thursday just before 7:30 a.m. in Lakewood.

Authorities say 36-year-old Alfonso Rodriguez-Rojas is charged with reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and passing a stopped school bus.

A motorist's dashcam video shows Rodriguez-Rojas' green pickup truck driving over a double yellow line and passing a car and school bus. Prosecutors say they were "amazed" at the driver's "blatant disregard for safety."

He's due in court on June 11.

It's unclear if he has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
