South Jersey HS Football Champs Congratulated By Superstar Alum

GLASSBORO, NJ. — Forty-one years. That's how long Millville High School waited for a football championship. A few minutes was all it took to receive congratulations from one of the biggest names in sports.

The Thunderbolts won their first South Jersey championship since 1975 Saturday with a thrilling 22-16 upset over Toms River North at Rowan University.

Not long after the victory, the high school's most famous alum recognized the team's achievement on social media.

Los Angeles Angels superstar outfielder Mike Trout, a Millville native and graduate of Millville Senior High School, took to Twitter to congratulate the team on its championship victory.

Millville entered the championship game as the underdog. Toms River North had won 21 straight and was the defending champion.

But when the game clock hit all zeros, it was the Thunderbolts who were celebrating a title -- four decades in the making.
