South Jersey Bakery Holds Special Holiday Hours For Charity

COLLINGSWOOD, N.J., (CBS) -- While many sweet shops are typically closed for the holiday, the staff at DiBartolo Bakery in Collingswood kept its ovens running to help collect "spare change" for the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey.

Al DiBartolo of DiBartolo Bakery was all smiles at the counter, giving away cookies in exchange for change donations from patrons.

"And by giving back a simple donation, you'll receive a really wonderful dessert," said DiBartolo.

But the shelves are stocked with many other delectable treats.

"I've worked with chefs from around the country, and I haven't tasted a better butter pound cake or butter cookie, than here."

"Anything we accomplish today is for the kids at the house really, whether it's a dollar donation or a penny," said DiBartolo Pastry Chef Manuel Agigian.

Ronald McDonald House development director Tina Fiorentino says all of it counts, as they try to "change the luck" of a child and their family at the Camden facility.

"A home away from home for families who have seriously ill and injured children; they're the families that stay in our house, everyday."

Some folks, like Tracy and her two children, simply emptied out jars and cans of spare change that they collected.

"My children enjoyed it. it's good to pitch in, and I like them to do service."
