South Jersey Animal Shelter Expansion Expected To Be Complete By End Of Summer

BLACKWOOD, NJ (CBS) -- They're making progress in the expansion of a South Jersey animal shelter.

Work is expected to be completed on the new Camden County animal shelter in Blackwood by the end of summer.

County freeholder Michelle Gentek-Mayer says the 1.5 million dollar project will allow for more dogs and cats to be housed there as loving owners are found for them. And then, there's a new holistic approach shelter operators plan to take there.

"This will allow us to spay and neuter, and to place them with nice families with the hopes that if you keep doing that, you'll reduce your intake."

The county is also working with municipalities to adopt a uniform stray animal police in an attempt to keep a lid on costs.
