South Jersey Animal Rescue Seeking Donations After Emaciated Dog Found In Tacony Creek Park

VOORHEES, NJ (CBS) – A local animal shelter is in need of donations for an emaciated dog found Tuesday in Philadelphia's Tacony Creek Park.

Nani, who weighs just 25 lbs, was discovered in the park by a man walking his dogs. She had apparently been starved nearly to death then put in a basket in the woods to die.

She was rescued by Lilo's Promise in South Jersey and is now recovering with a foster family, where she is reportedly unable to walk or lift her head but is eating small bits of food and drinking a little water.

Lilo's Promise has started a fundraising page to help raise money for Nani's care. As of 2 p.m., nearly $1,500 had been donated.

The Voorhees, NJ-based rescue says any additional money raise will be used to care for the other animals at the shelter.

Lilo's Promise says that social media is key to its fundraising efforts, and that once CBSPhilly.com covered the story of rescue dog Balboa, who needed tests for a brain tumor, the shelter was able to raise enough money for his care within 24 hours.
