Some Delaware High School Students To Spend Part Of Their Summer Studying In China

DOVER, Del. (CBS) -- Up to two dozen Delaware high school students will spend a part of their summer studying in China, thanks to an agreement between the state and a major Chinese auto parts manufacturer.
The Wanxiang Group is footing the almost half million dollar cost of a two year plan for students and teachers to immerse themselves in the Chinese culture for four weeks.
Delaware Governor Jack Markell is excited.
"We do our kids a disservice when we lead them to believe thinking that English is going to be enough in a world which is so interconnected."
Those who get to go have to currently be learning to speak Chinese and meet other requirements. Applications are available through their schools and have to be submitted by March. Decisions will be made in April and travel will commence in late June.
