Solutions For Getting That Sticky Sap Off

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Ick! How do you get the sap off your hands?

I have a sister who insists I tell you that she uses baby oil. So there, I told you! And while oily things will get the sap off — I had a plant teacher who used peanut butter — I can't stand to use anything greasy, because then I have to wash the greasy gunk off. But my sister says the baby oil helps soothe her winter-chapped hands, so perhaps that will help you too.

On the other hand, hand sanitizer is handy, not greasy, and you can keep a teensy bottle in your pocket or glove box. So, when you're tree shopping or choosing wreaths, or putting up the tree and suddenly realize your hands are all sticky, you can just squirt some hand sanitizer on and it dissolves the sap. Wipe off any excess with a tissue.

So, there you go, hand sanitizer and tissues! Two things you should be armed with during the cold and flu season anyway, and it just so happens they're perfect weapons against sticky sap residue too.
