Software Developers Gather in Philadelphia For Two-Day Confab

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The City of Philadelphia today proclaimed April 22nd the "Day of the Developer."
The ninth annual Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise ("ETE") Conference is drawing 500 global tech leaders to Philadelphia.
The two-day conference, going on at a Society Hill hotel, kicked off today with the reading of a city proclamation declaring it "Day of the Developer."
"The Day of the Developer is just recognition that the region is giving to this community about the importance of what they are doing," says Tracey Welson-Rossman, Philly ETE co-chair and chief marketing officer at Fort Washington-based Chariot Solutions, the host of the event.
She says software developers have made it possible for changes of the pricing structure of software, allowing smaller companies to compete with the big boys:
"Smaller and mid-size companies can now actually utilize big, large-enterprise software that wasn't available to them because the pricing was too much."
The developers at the conference specialize in areas such as programming languages, data science, cloud computing, high-scale infrastructure, mobile, and other technologies.
