Student Arrested After Allegedly Bringing Gun To School

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A student at a Philadelphia school has been arrested after allegedly bringing a gun to school.

General George A. McCall Elementary and Middle School in Society Hill was placed on lockdown around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after reports a student had a gun.

Police recovered the gun and arrested a student.

The lockdown was lifted just after 10 a.m.

The school district released the following statement:

"It is completely unacceptable any time a student brings a weapon to school. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. On Wednesday the principal at General George A. McCall Elementary School was informed that a student was likely in possession of a loaded gun. She took immediate action. The Philadelphia Police Department was called and the school was placed on lockdown immediately. The gun was removed from the school without incident. The lockdown was lifted after it was determined that there was no further threat and all students and staff were safe. The School District is fully cooperating with the Philadelphia Police Department as they investigate this matter."
