Temps plummet around Philadelphia Sunday, wind chills drop into the teens and single digits

Temperatures drop into the 20s Sunday after snow blankets the Delaware Valley

The heavy, steady snow has moved out of the Delaware Valley Sunday, but the NEXT big change to impact the region is dangerous cold.

Keep your devices charged – that heavy snow is sticking to trees and power lines, and along with gusty winds this afternoon, could cause some power outages.

Snow totals from overnight through Sunday morning put much of the Philadelphia area between 4-8 inches.

NEXT big weather change

Sunday afternoon will turn extremely cold, with temperatures dropping into the 20s. Gusty winds between 20-30 mph will make it feel like the teens and even single digits, so if you have to go outside, put on lots of layers to avoid frostbite.

Blowing and drifting snow are possible, and there's a chance for snow squalls this afternoon and evening.

Feels-like temperatures on Sunday and Monday CBS Philadelphia

Monday will be a bitterly cold day with highs only around 30 degrees, with feels-like temperatures in the teens and low twenties all day – our coldest day yet. After about 60 hours below freezing the mercury will briefly climb above freezing Tuesday afternoon before dropping back into the 20s Tuesday night.

Monday morning commute temperatures CBS Philadelphia

It looks like our below-average cold weather streak will continue through Wednesday before temperatures warm up into the 50s on Thursday. This will be the warmest day since the day before Thanksgiving when Philadelphia had a high temperature of 63 degrees.

The warmer than normal temperatures will be short-lived, however, as a cold front approaches from the west Thursday night. Scattered showers will be possible ahead of this front and may hang around into the morning hours on Friday. Once the cold front moves through and the rain tapers off temperatures will drop through most of the day Friday.
