Snow Preparations Underway In Suburban Counties

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Preparations for the snowstorm are well underway in suburban counties.

Montgomery County commissioner Josh Shapiro says as they look at the forecast for snow amounts, they're preparing for the worst while hoping for the best, while gearing up the emergency operations center, staffing the EOC watch-desk:

"On 12 hour shifts through at least Sunday morning, and if we need to staff it longer, we certainly will."

County officials are also working with power companies as outages are expected as the forecast includes high winds and a heavy, wet snow.

Delaware County council chairman Mario Civera says the timing of the storm should help.

"Luckily, this storm is hitting on the weekend where a lot of people will be off the roads and we really express them to stay in their homes until this storm passes."

County officials remind residents 9-1-1 is for emergencies only.
