Small Plane Crashes Into Delaware River

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) -Officials say a small plane crashed into the Delaware River Saturday morning  near the New Castle County Airport.

According to police, traffic controllers at the airport reported that they had lost contact with the small single engine aircraft around 10:45 a.m., shortly after it had departed.

Police say there were two men on board who had to be removed from the water. They were taken to the shore to be treated for injuries, which police say don't appear to be life-threatening.

The FAA says the pilot reported engine problems. Police say the plane lost power.

A major concern now, according to police, is that there is still about 50 gallons of fuel on the plane.

An  investigation is ongoing.
