'Slippery Rail Season': SEPTA Warns Of Possible Delays On Regional Rail Caused By Crushed Leaves

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - SEPTA is asking its Regional Rail customers to prepare for possible delays. It has to do with what SEPTA calls "slippery rail season."

Falling leaves, crushed by trains, deposit a residue on the tracks that decreases the friction of the train's wheels.

Speeds have to be reduced to maintain safe operations.

SEPTA does take steps in the overnight hours to clean the tracks.
