SJU's Galloway Looking To Impress Knicks

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Langston Galloway enjoyed an outstanding career in the backcourt for the St. Joseph's University Hawks, and that success has opened the door to the NBA for the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native.

Galloway played with New York's entry in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and impressed the Knicks enough that they signed him to a contract earlier this week.

"I'm just glad for the opportunity and just so blessed that the Knicks signed me to a contract and just excited for the opportunity," Galloway tells KYW Newsradio.

A 6'2" guard, Galloway started more games than any other player in the history of the program at St. Joe's (132). He poured in 17.7 point a game as a senior, leading the Hawks to the NCAA Tournament this past season. He scored 1,991 points during his career, making him the program's second all-time leading scorer. He says his time on Hawk Hill really helped him get to this point.

"Just getting the opportunity at St. Joe's with coach Phil Martelli and the rest of the staff," Galloway says. "Just giving me the opportunity to try to be a go-to guy in my senior season, it definitely got me prepared for the next level. And I continued to work on my game at St. Joe's and it definitely progressed, starting from my freshman year to my senior year."

Galloway made 343 three-point shots in college, shooting at a 43% clip from behind the arc and he is confident that his perimeter shooting will be a strength with the Knicks.

"I think right now my jump shot is, by far, the most ready point in my game, right now," Galloway says. "But I'm just going to continue to work hard and get better every day."

Galloway averaged 5.8 points a game in summer league play.

Galloway and the Knicks open training camp on September 30th.
