SJ Shore Town Considers Restrictions On Boardwalk Performers

OCEAN CITY, NJ (CBS) -- Officials in Ocean City are pondering new rules on the boardwalk. They'll affect those who want to perform for those taking a stroll.

The proposed ordinance would require those wanting to put on a show to get finger printed for an annual license, and they'd be restricted as to where they could perform.

City Council President Peter Madden says first reading of the proposal Thursday night went off without a hitch.

"We've heard from the entertainers as well as the boardwalk merchants," Madden told KYW Newsradio, "and I think, to the best of my knowledge, the council's going to be in support of this ordinance that helps to keep the entertainers on the boardwalk but alleviate some of the issues that the merchants have had."

Those issues are pretty much crowd related. A final vote is scheduled late this month, after people on both sides of the debate get their chance to speak up.
