SJ Community College Now Sees 4-Year Schools As Competitors
PEMBERTON, N.J. (CBS) - Rowan College at Burlington County has cancelled a scheduled transfer fair, and informed several four year colleges and universities they may no longer come on campus to lobby prospective students.
The reason: competition.
Rowan Burlington's new 3+1 program is aimed at retaining students through their third year of education with the plan to transfer to Rowan for their senior year, and significantly trim the overall cost of that degree.
Rowan Burlington President Paul Drayton says that plan changes the way they relate to other outside institutions:
"In the past we did not compete with those schools," he tells KYW Newsradio. "We're now competing with those schools. We're saying to those schools that we want our students to stay with us for a third year."
Rutgers, Fairleigh Dickinson and Wilmington University have a presence on the Rowan Burlington main campus now and that won't change.
Drayton says other schools will still be able to pitch for students online and a transfer office will continue to assist any student who wants to transfer anywhere.
