Sixers Facility In Camden Taking Shape Ahead Of Schedule

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Sixers this week unveiled an artist's rendering of what their new corporate offices and practice facility in Camden will look like. Team officials are pleased with progress made so far on the project.

The $80 million, 125 thousand square foot structure is already taking shape along the waterfront, just south of the Camden Aquarium and DRPA headquarters. "We're ahead of schedule," Sixers CEO Scott O'Neill told KYW Newsradio. "We're going to open in the fourth quarter of this year and I would say that from our perspective everything seems to be going in our favor."

Hopes are to use what's being labeled as a state of the art facility to not only lure quality talent to the club, but fans and business prospects.

"As the team is starting to turn, we've got a fun lottery coming up, the draft and then the training center open," O'Neill said. "It's going to make the summer absolutely incredible."

While the building's going up, a full court press is on to award naming rights to the building. O'Neill says he's looking for a partner that will not only get involved with the team, but the city of Camden as well.

The team has been given some $80 million in state tax credits, payable over a 10 year period, to locate in Camden. The project is just one of several going up along with Camden waterfront over the next few years including new corporate headquarters for Subaru, not to mention a plan for an office park and hotel.
