Sixers And Corporate Partner Reach Out To Kids In Community

PITMAN, NJ (CBS) -- The Sixers have partnered with Virtua in presenting what they call 'Sixers Academy' at Virtua's total turf experience in Pitman, New Jersey.

It looked like all fun and games as you watched about a hundred middle school students from Camden split into teams and go through various basketball drills, but there was a lot more to it and the students seemed to get it.

"We just learned how to have sportsmanship for others. Yeah, we learned how to do different passes. We're learning how to work out and not be selfish with the ball. Pass it around."

Former Sixers great World B. Free showed up to deliver a motivational message.

"Tell them about how to eat, school, make sure that you do the right things in school and try to be positive, not only to yourselves, but to other kids."

Health, wellness and teamwork, this was the first of three community-based clinics Virtua and the Sixers are holding this year.
