Sinkhole and water main break in Conshohocken impacting traffic

A large sinkhole has opened up in Conshohocken after a water main break was reported Wednesday night.

The hole is located at West 10th Avenue and Colwell Lane, near Sutcliffe Park.

An Aqua spokesperson told CBS News Philadelphia that officials don't know if the water main break caused the sinkhole, or vice versa.

Crews first responded to the area around 10 p.m. and are still at the scene as of Thursday afternoon.

The Aqua spokesperson said around 6:20 p.m. that water was restored for all but four customers and crews continue to work on repairs at the scene.

A gas main was also affected, according to Aqua. PECO said its crews were called to the scene around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday and have been working on the sinkhole. About 83 customers are impacted, PECO said.

Aqua said the broken pipe is 6 inches and is more than 100 years old.
