Showers, Thunderstorms To Pop Up Across The Area As Temperatures Rise

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a below average start to the month, temperatures will be ramping back up to summer-like levels this week.

Monday will start off with a mix of sun and clouds, with highs in the low to mid 80s, close to the normal high. As a cold front approaches from the west, showers and thunderstorms will begin to pop up across Central PA late this afternoon into this evening. A line of these storms will move through the Poconos and Lehigh Valley between 6 and 7 p.m., the city around 8 p.m., and could affect parts of New Jersey as late as 10 p.m. Some of the storms have the potential to be severe. Much of PA north and west of Philadelphia is in a 'slight' severe risk, with the remainder of the region in a 'marginal risk.' While these are the two lowest categories that can be issued, severe weather is still possible whenever they are issued. If you will be out and about this evening, make sure to keep an eye to the sky, and check in with CBS3 at 5 and 6!

Showers and thunderstorms will linger into tomorrow, with temperatures staying approximately the same. Once conditions fully clear out Tuesday night, we will move fully into a summer-like pattern. The heat and humidity ramp back up, with highs approaching 90° Wednesday through Friday. Each will be primarily sunny, making for superb beach or pool days. Keep in mind that UV rays are nearing their highest numbers of the year, so sunscreen will be imperative! Also, water temperatures are getting there, but are still in the low 60s.

The warm weather continues right on into the weekend, but the next chance of any wet or stormy weather will also be around on Saturday.
