2 dead in murder-suicide at Excelcare rehab facility in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey

Shooting at Excelcare in Egg Harbor Township leaves 1 dead, 1 critical

Officials have identified the woman and man killed in a shooting at the Excelcare rehabilitation facility in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey on Monday morning.

The man waited for his estranged wife to arrive at work at the facility before fatally shooting her and turning the gun on himself, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

The shooting was first reported around 6:30 a.m. Monday at the center on the 6800 block of Delilah Road.

Investigators say 35-year-old Brandon Alexander of Minotola, New Jersey, was waiting in the parking lot when his ex-wife, 38-year-old Victoria Alexander, pulled up for her shift. She was a nurse at the facility.

Alexander allegedly pulled his vehicle behind his ex-wife's and blocked her in, and then entered her car and left suicide notes on the dashboard. At some point, a food delivery driver approached and asked the man to move his vehicle.

During that time, Victoria Alexander ran into the building. Her ex-husband followed her inside and shot her several times before shooting himself, ACPO said.

Victoria Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene and Brandon Alexander was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said there was no ongoing threat to the public and that the shooting appeared to have been an "isolated incident involving individuals known to one another."

In a statement, Lior Benesti, the facility's administrator, said, "We are deeply saddened by the heartbreaking death of one of our beloved employees during a domestic confrontation at our facility this morning. This has shaken everyone at Excelcare of Egg Harbor and we offer our profound condolences to our staff member's family and friends. This was an isolated incident and our residents were not endangered. We continue to fully cooperate with the police as they investigate this tragedy."

The prosecutor's office and Egg Harbor Township Police Department are investigating.
