Shooting Suspect Prompts Stand-Off With Police In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The search is on for a shooting suspect who prompted a stand-off with police in North Philadelphia, Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to 15th and Cambridge Streets for a report of a shooting, around 8:30 a.m.

When police arrived on scene, they found a man who had been shot once in the leg. An eyewitness said he didn't see where the shooter went, but he did try to help the victim.

"He was obviously in pain and screaming. I tried to calm him down, and before you know it, police were there. They responded quickly," said  Matt Schwemmer.

The victim was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition.

Police say the suspect ran to the 1500 block of Poplar Street, where a barricade situation was declared just before 9 a.m. Police searched the home where the suspect was believed to have run into, but it was empty.

Authorities say they did recover a gun.
