Severe Threat Thursday…Better Half Of Holiday Weekend

By Kathy Orr

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The combination of a strong disturbance and more sunshine will increase the chance of scattered, but locally strong to severe thunderstorms Thursday. We are in a "Slight Risk" for severe weather in Philadelphia and nearby suburbs, meaning that any thunderstorm could produce strong, damaging winds and the threat of hail.

The system will move out Thursday night, but another low tries to bring some showers back into the area Friday.

Friday will be cooler, with highs in the lower 70's. But the holiday weekend will get better- Saturday will be partly sunny, (still the chance of a stray shower) Highs will be around 72.  Sunday and Monday highs will be around 80 degrees with lots of sunshine!  Great for a day trip!

If you are spending the weekend down the shore, the weather will be cooler but follow a similar warming trend.

Friday highs will be the 60s, Saturday around 70. Expect more sun Sunday and Monday, with highs in the lower 70s.

The UV index will be very high the second half of the weekend, so pack the SPF 30.

The ocean will be chilly, in the lower 60s.

Orr @ The Shore begins its 12th Year Thursday. We are broadcasting live from Stone Harbor, on CBS 3 at 5pm and 6pm! Hope you can join us as we kick off the Summer of 2014!
