Seth Williams Announces New Protocol For Police-Involved Shooting Cases
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia District Attorney announces a new protocol in the investigation and prosecution of officer involved cases.
The new procedures at the the District Attorney's office will ensure public transparency and accountability whenever an officer uses his or her weapon, according to D.A. Seth Williams who highlights some of the new rules.
"Our investigations will be independent. Our investigations will be parallel to that of the Philadelphia Police Department. Our investigations and their findings will be transparent. In all investigations the decision to indict or not indict will ultimately be mine."
And D.A. Williams says that decision will be based on two things -- the evidence and law.
He says the report will be made available to the public with in 60 days after the investigation is completed.
He says engaging the public will build trust.
"The single strongest protection we can have for police and our community is trust."
