SEPTA Regional Rail Lines Delayed Due To Mechanical Issues

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  SEPTA trains operating through Center City were running up to 60 minutes late due to mechanical issues on a Warminster regional rail train that developed problems en route to 30th Street Station at rush hour.

A SEPTA official says passengers riding the train between Jefferson Station and 30th Street station were moved from a forward car to the rear of the train late this afternoon after an engineer spotted smoke as the train was passing through the tunnel at 20th Street.

The engineer drove the train into 30th Street Station and passengers got off without incident and were directed to another train.

The SEPTA official says investigators believe an overhead electric line might have developed problems in a connection with the top of the train causing the smoke.

He said there were no flames visible.

All trains have resumed running on a normal schedule.
