SEPTA Provides Update On Delayed Service & Regional Rail Defects

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- SEPTA gave an update to their ongoing issues with rail service on Friday afternoon, and while service issues will continue through at least until the end of August, some help is on the way.

SEPTA General Manager Jeff Knueppel says despite losing 239 passenger cars, the number of daily trips on regional rail only fell by 60. Knueppel also says SEPTA has been able to lease equipment from other agencies that he hopes will be running by Monday.

"This will allow us to have 3 additional train sets out there with roughly 1,700 total seats, and we'll be working to get multiple trips out of those vehicles."

SEPTA says a new interim weekday train schedule will be in place Monday, and that should be available online Sunday afternoon.

The agency will also add more local service between Glenside and Center City which should reduce pass-bys, and that SEPTA is working with the city and county governments to look into creating a temporary express bus service.
