SEPTA Infrastructure Improvements Are Priority In 5-Year Plan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Six months after the Pennsylvania Legislature passed a transportation spending bill, SEPTA is getting down to the business of catching up on a host of capital improvement projects.
What was once a wish list is now a to-do list. Much-needed infrastructure improvements are priority in SEPTA five year plan.
"We're really going to make a major push over the next five years to replace a lot of our vehicles which are aging, which we think is going improve on-time performance dramatically."
Erik Johanson of SEPTA's Manager of Strategic Business Planning says riders will also see numerous station reconstruction plans are in the works. As technology continues to evolve, the transit agency has shifted its focus from customer service to the customer experience.
"Our customers start interacting with SEPTA when they get up and they check their phone and they check to see if their train is on time or delayed because we're providing real-time information on that."
Safety improvements will also be a priority for both riders and employees.
