A man was killed after he fell off a subway platform in Philadelphia and was hit by a train early Wednesday morning, police said.

The Philadelphia Police Department said Terrell Burton, 41, died after he was hit by a train at the SEPTA Broad Street Line Hunting Park Station around 1:30 a.m.

SEPTA said surveillance video caught Burton entering the station around 12:30 a.m. The transit authority said he fell onto the southbound tracks about an hour later and was struck by a work train, not a passenger subway.

PPD originally said Burton was struck after he got off an arriving subway, but SEPTA clarified it was a maintenance train that hit him since Broad Street Line service ends at 12:30 a.m.

Police said the city's fire department responded to the accident and pronounced Burton dead at 2:03 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation by the police department's crash investigation division.
