Seeking To Spread Love Woman Creates Cape May 'Poet-Tree'

CAPE MAY, NJ (CBS)- English professor Sylvia Baer enjoys summers off from teaching, but not from literature.

The Rowan College at Gloucester County faculty member took a play on words and made something remarkable in front of her summer home in Cape May.

"It is called a 'poet-tree' and it's a tree with lots of poems on it," says Baer.

For 3 weeks Baer has been tying sheets of brightly colored paper to the tree in her yard with her favorite poems.

Some poems were written by others and some are originals.

Her policy is if you like the poem – take it.

She says so far she's given out more than a hundred poems.

Her goal is to help people appreciate poetry and through it feel a sense of unity with others.

"There is so much going on the world today that reminds us how we're so different from each other and I wanted to do something that reminded people of how alike we are," says Baer.
