Search Intensifies For Hit-Run Driver Who Killed 8 Year Old In Overbrook

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- "We will leave no stone unturned," says Captain Bologna.

The search intensifies for the hit and run driver who killed eight-year-old Jayanna Powell at 63rd and Lansdowne Avenue.

The accident happened last Friday around 3:15 p.m. and it's still fresh in the minds of neighbors.

"Sweet little girl...I'm just sad that her life had to end so short."

Khan Percell knows the child's family. He owns a store near the accident scene and says he use to see the little girl come in to buy snacks.

Now, he sees a community forever changed by this tragedy.

"People are hurting. People walking their kids to and from school that never have before."

Captain Bologna says, "We are continuing to interview witnesses. We want the driver to come forward."

Police have increased patrols in the area, continuing to seek out surveillance video that may give a better glimpse of the striking car.

For now a mother is left with inconsolable grief and a community is left wanting justice.

Percell says, "Heartless, shameless....hope you hear my words and turn yourself in."
