School District Of Philadelphia Shortens Spring Break Because Of Snow Days

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The School District of Philadelphia is shortening spring break, to make up for the snow days that are piling up this winter.

You knew this was coming. The Philadelphia School District is gutting spring recess, to make up for time lost to snow. Kids will now have to go to class April 15, 16 and 17 -- the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of what was previously scheduled as a weeklong spring break.

Blame the weather. The district has had six snow days this winter, and built only one extra day into the school calendar. The district may ask the state department of education to waive the 180-day requirement to keep from having to make up the two remaining days. Right now, the last scheduled day for students is June 19th.
