1 Dead; Several Hurt In Accident Involving School Bus In Cumberland County

BRIDGETON, NJ (CBS) -- Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a deadly accident involving a school bus in Cumberland County, New Jersey Thursday morning.

Police say the accident happened on State Highway 49 around 7:42 a.m.

Authorities say 43-year-old Larry Waller was traveling westbound on State Highway 49 when he crossed into the eastbound lane and struck the school bus.

As a result of the collision, the bus ran off the roadway and overturned.

Police say Waller was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several of the passengers on the bus were taken to local hospitals.

The Superintendent of the Bridgeton School District says students were being bused from the Bridgeton area to schools outside of the district due to their specific special needs.

The road was shut down while authorities investigated.
