Scenic Strut Along Boathouse Row Draws 500 Seniors

By Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- It may be alittle early for a strut up or down Broad Street, but seniors took a strut Tuesday in a part of Philadelphia that was oh-so-scenic.

About 500 older folks slipped on blue Senior Strut T-shirts, and were ready to roll along Boathouse Row.

They were sent off by the Mummers and Mayor Nutter. "You know, if you live long enough, you get to be a senior," he said. "Just got to hang around and take care of yourselves."

Philadelphia Corporation for Aging CEO Holly Lange says they mapped out a nice mile long loop along Kelly Drive. "We're exercising and having a good time, while preserving our health and dignity," she said.

PCA hopes the Senior Strut might spur older adults to join or form walking groups, because walking increases blood flow to the heart, lungs and brain that can put you in a good mood and lower stress.
