Salvation Army Heats Up Oven And Gets Cooking

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than four thousand people are able to enjoy a hot Thanksgiving meal at home, thanks to one local organization.

 

For the last four years, The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia has given out hot meals to people in need, for them to take home and enjoy.

Esther Mander said she's happy for the Thanksgiving-to-Go meal provided by the Salvation Army, but she's even happier for their Thanksgiving church service she was able to attend earlier in the day.

"It was nice having the comradery of the people who are alone and don't have family anymore, when we all get together and share, it just makes the day happier," she said.

Esther said even though she's having Thanksgiving dinner alone, she is at no shortage for blessings.

"Being able to walk, get around, keeping a roof over my head, I'm grateful for so many things, I really am."
