'Rutgers Day' Festival Draws Record-Setting Crowd

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers officials say a record-setting crowd has turned out to get an up-close look at the university and its many offerings.

An estimated 84,000 people came out Saturday for the annual "Rutgers Day" festival, an annual outdoor event highlighted by the Scarlet-White intrasquad spring football game.

But there also were hundreds of events and programs sponsored by schools, departments, institutes, centers and student organizations on the university's campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway.

Each campus focused on specific topics to showcase student talents and program offerings.

Among this year's featured events was the New Jersey Folk Festival, where students from East Asian, Spanish, African, Middle East and French special-interest houses in the university's Global Village Learning Community shared their language and cultural experiences.
