Runners Get Set For 35th Annual Broad Street Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The largest ten-mile race in the U.S. hits the ground running for the 35th time Sunday morning, as participants and spectators get set for the annual Broad Street Run.

So how fast do the elite runner's go? The course records are about 45-minutes for men and 53-minutes for women. "We're looking for them to possibly break it again this year, they've gotten better and better," says race director Jim Marino.

"Sometimes they come down the street, it looks like their feet aren't even touching the ground. They're just floating down Broad Street."

What kind of finish times might we expect for the average Joe and Jane runners?

"An hour, 25 minutes to an hour and 45 minutes is what we call the bell curve, where the largest amount of people come down and cross the finish line."

One big change this year: the expo, where runners pick up their bibs and other items, is at the Convention Center -- not Lincoln Financial Field, like years past.

Marino says among the race day items you get are a bib and clear plastic bag for your gear.

"We're reminding everybody not to bring any backpacks or coolers. All of the runners are asked to bring clear plastic bags to check their gear onto our race buses."

Those buses will take your gear to the finish line. After the race, shuttle buses will run between the Navy Yard and the free parking areas at the Sports Complex.
