Kathleen Kane's Attempt To Halt Trial Falls Short
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - A set-back for Pennsylvania attorney general Kathleen Kane as the state Supreme Court has denied her 11th-hour request to halt her criminal trial, which is to start next week.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court did not elaborate on its decision. The order only says Justice Sally Updyke Mundy did not participate in the decision.
At a press conference touting the success of her office's child predator unit, Kane was asked her thoughts on the court's decision:
"I live to fight another day, and most importantly, as we see here today, I live to fight another day in doing my job for the people who elected me."
Kane's lawyers asked the state's highest court to review the legality of a special prosecutor being appointed to investigate allegations Kane had leaked privileged Grand Jury testimony.
Kane is charged with Obstruction and Perjury. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday morning in Norristown.
