Roxborough Park Receives State Grant For Renovations And Upgrades

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thursday marked a big step in the process of a Philadelphia park receiving a makeover. State Senator Vincent Hughes was on hand at Gorgas Park in Roxborough to present a $188,000 check.

The money was a state grant intended to improve the park. A renovated baseball field, smoother walkways and new landscaping are just some of the renovations and upgrades ahead.

Senator Hughes said this project is important because he wants it to be an example for other communities.

"If we come to an agreement, and we make the right decisions, we can then wind up having the right investments in our communities and our neighborhoods to do the work that we all know is important stuff to do," Hughes said.

Gorgas Park has been in the community for 121 years.
