PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Rowan College of Gloucester County has opened a nearly 6 thousand square-foot addition to their Law & Justice Education Center.

A ribbon cutting was held on Thursday and the new facility is dedicated to their Police Academy training programs.

The 2.2 million dollar project took about a year to complete.

"This expansion was needed to provide a modern space for the students who seek degrees in training and certificate programs in the criminal justice field." said a spokesperson.

The main lobby of the new facility houses a memorial hall dedicated to those killed on September 11th as well as fallen New Jersey military members and police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.

"This addition to the law and justice education center includes two forensic laboratories and 7 classrooms."

Each year the building is used by 500 students as well as 3,000 police academy attendees.
