Two construction workers were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the Route 30 Bypass in Chester County, Pennsylvania, on Monday night, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. in Valley Township, near Coatesville, police said in a news release.

Investigators believe a tractor-trailer driving in the work zone caused the crash. The two workers were implementing a traffic pattern in the work zone when they were struck.

The people who died were working for the contractor Allan Meyers on a PennDOT project resurfacing the road.

A total of four vehicles were involved, police say. Two other workers were taken to the hospital and have been released, according to Allan Myers.

At least one person was trapped because of the crash, according to Chester County dispatch. CBS News Philadelphia

Images from Chopper 3 showed a tractor-trailer that crossed over the guardrail on the road into a wooded area. The truck has since been removed from the scene.

The bypass fully reopened before noon Tuesday.
