Wrong-Way Roosevelt Boulevard Driver Who Jumped Barrier After Crash Has Died

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The man who caused a crash on Roosevelt Boulevard before he got out of his car and jumped the road's barrier has died, police say.

Authorities say the suspect was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes at around 4 p.m. Thursday when he sideswiped two cars and hit another vehicle head-on.

Then he fled from his own car and jumped the barrier, suffering serious injuries.

He was taken to the hospital where he was immediately placed in critical condition.

Police say two occupants of the other vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to the hospital.

Police believe this all started over a domestic dispute.

Police say the suspect's girlfriend and her mother were in the car with the suspect, but at some point before the collision, the girlfriend jumped out.

Her mother remained in the backseat.

She is being treated for a hip injury.

All southbound lanes were closed for three hours at Ridge Avenue as authorities investigated the accident.

The lanes reopened at around 8 p.m., where traffic continued to crawl after being backed up past Broad Street.

The identity of the man has not been released at this time.
