Rolled Ice Cream: A First For Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The city is home to dozens of ice cream, frozen yogurt and gelato shops that are serving up delicious scoops but Sweet Charlie's ice cream in Washington Square is a first of its kind... because the ice cream is rolled. And the frozen treats are mixed and made right before customers' eyes!

"We've always done little things like shovel driveways when it snows but this is the first real venture for us," said 21-year-old, Jacob Billing who opened the shop with his 19-year-old brother, Kyle in May.

The brothers, natives of Cherry Hill, were inspired by street vendors in Thailand who commonly serve up the rolled frozen treats. Since social media was buzzing about the rolled up ice cream, they decided to bring it to Philly, naming the shop after their "sweet" family dog.

There are 15 different flavors  to choose from and people can create their own concoctions from an impressive list of mix-ins. But for those who need a little inspiration, there are several ice cream and topping combinations on the menu like "LOVE Park," with pound cake and fresh strawberries or "Off Duty Officer," with premium coffee grounds and a fresh donut hole.

For the real donut lovers, there's also a hot dog bun-shaped glazed donut with a roll of ice cream in the center that just may be worthy of an Instagram or Facebook post.

You can find Sweet Charlie's on 7th and Walnut.  Shops are also planned for Margate and Marlton, New Jersey.
