Good Samaritan Shot In Rittenhouse Square After Intervening In Robbery Attempt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Good Samaritan is recovering after he was shot in one of the city's high end neighborhoods.

Police are looking for at least two men who got away.

The shooting happening right in the park. And those who live or work in Rittenhouse Square are stunned and a bit more on edge.

"Yeah it kind of freaks you out a little bit," says Joan.

"It's supposed to be one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city so it's surprising to hear it happened, but I guess anything's possible," adds Josh.

Around 9:30 last night, police say at least two men were robbing up people at gunpoint. That is when police say a 39-year-old man on a bike saw what was going on and tried to stop the robbery.

Police say one of the criminals fired his revolver at the Good Samaritan. He ended up wounded and police say the robbers ran off.

The victim is now in stable condition.

Police spoke to witnesses who say the suspects are known in the area.

A place where there are plenty of surveillance cameras, police hope the footage helps push the investigation forward.
