Ribbon Cutting Held For New Phila. Police Training Center

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday for the new $15.5 million Philadelphia Police Training Center in Northeast Philadelphia.

Mayor Michael Nutter, police commissioner Charles Ramsey and FOP president John McNesby were among those participating in the ceremony for the new training facility on Woodhaven road. It's three times bigger than the old one on state road.

"When we required ownership of the property from the defense department two years ago we went to work right away implementing our plan and renovating the building, which brings us to where we are today." says Nutter. "This new facility is a state of the art hi-tech green building that offers our police officers and cadets the best possible space in which to train for their very dangerous and very important jobs on the streets of our city."

One of the training rooms has been named after the city's top cop.

"Named for our great police commissioner Charles Ramsey, he didn't know that." says Nutter. "Give it up for the commissioner one more time."
