Revenue At Pennsylvania Casinos Is Down About 3% This Year

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - Pennsylvania casinos experienced a decline of nearly 3-percent in overall revenues from fiscal year to fiscal year, despite an uptick in table games play.
The numbers for slots play were released a few weeks ago, showing an overall decline of 4.5-percent in fiscal year 2013-14. Gaming Control Board spokesman Doug Harbach says table games numbers are now out, showing an increase of 2.6-percent for the fiscal year.
"Table games went up, which meant it buffered some of the reduction we saw in slots revenue for the [fiscal] year. But of course, slot machines are the biggest revenue producer, and that means even with an increase in tables, we still saw an overall drop."
That overall decline in gross Pennsylvania casino revenues comes to just under 2.9-percent.
Harbach notes that the table games market in Pennsylvania is newer than slots. The gaming board, meanwhile, continues its private deliberations on a second casino license for Philadelphia.
