Retailers To Face Fine If Caught Selling E-Cigarettes To Minors In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Retailers will now get a fine if they are caught selling e-cigarettes to minors in Philadelphia.
In April, Mayor Michael Nutter made it illegal to sell e-cigarettes to people under age 18.
Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. James Buehler says since then, retailers have received a warning for not enforcing the law.
"What's different now is that we are going to move forward and fully put into place the legislation and we will be issuing citations including a fine to those retailers who are not in compliance with this new legislation," Dr. Buehler said.
That fine is $250.
"They have to not sell, they have to ask for ID's with a young client and they need to post the regulation. Violation of any one of those could result in a fine," Dr. Buehler said.
The Philadelphia Department of Public Health will continue to do compliance checks and violations can also be reported at smokefreephilly.org.
