Respiratory Illness Warnings Posted At PHL And Other International Airports

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Signs warning travelers about MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) have been posted at Philadelphia International Airport and other airports around the country.

The colorful signs are designed to catch travelers' attention -- those going to and coming from the Arabian Peninsula.  They warn of a new illness and to urge the usual precautions to prevent spread of disease:  washing hands often, avoiding close contact with anyone not feeling well, and keeping your hands away from your face.

"And our custodial staff continues to ensure that all the surfaces -- particularly those that come in frequent contact with travelers, like rails and doorknobs -- are cleaned very regularly," says Victoria Lupica, spokeswoman for Philadelphia International Airport.

With cases of the respiratory illness growing in the US, the flying public is reminded that fever, cough, and shortness of breath are reasons to see a doctor, especially if you've flown recently or encountered a traveler who's been to the Middle East.
